George E. Hunker

George E. Hunker, 74, residing in Sandusky, passed away early Wednesday morning, July 22, 2015 at Stein Hospice Care Center after a lengthy illness.

George was born on February 21, 1941 in Sandusky, OH to the late Owen "Dave" and Dorothy Mae (Grohe) Hunker.

George worked from 1960 to 1990 at the original Hinde and Dauche Paper Company, which later became known as Westvaco, Displayco Midwest and Chesapeake. He was a member of the Sons of Amvets Post 17 and Huron Eagles Club #2875. In his spare time, he enjoyed auto racing, especially attending the Indianapolis 500 with family.

George is survived by his wife of 53 years, Barbara (Heiberger) Hunker, whom he married on May 19, 1962; two sons, Kirk Hunker of Sandusky and Todd Hunker of Bennington, NE; two granddaughters, Madeline and Mikayla; three sisters, Shirley Watts, Ruth "Judy" Ehrnsberger and Mary Alice "Mernie" Boissoneault; his beloved dog "Scooby;" and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

In addition to his parents, George is preceded in death by six brothers, Richard, Owen "Jimmy," Louis, Burtan "Dane," Paul and Francis "Sammy" Hunker; and two sisters, Lois "Sis" Winland and infant Marianne.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2015 at 10:30 am at Groff Funeral Homes and Crematory, 1607 E Perkins Ave, Sandusky with Chaplain Mel Sayler presiding. Burial will be at a later date in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron, OH.
