Irvin "Bud" Kuns, age 92, of Castalia, died Thursday afternoon surrounded by his family.
He was born December 15, 1918, in Monroeville, and was a 1937 graduate of Margaretta High School. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Castalia. Irvin enlisted in the U.S. Navy for three years and was in the Normandy Invasion. He went to California and became co-owner of George Barris Custom City, a customizing car operation. They made special cars for movies such as the Bat Mobile, Munster Coach, and Mannix. These cars were some of their most famous. They also customized cars for movie people including Elvis Presley, Sinatra, and Dean Martin, plus a good deal of styling work for Ford, GM, and AMC. Bud came back to Ohio and had the position of Administrator for Firelands Medical Clinic for 10 years before suffering a stroke in 1978, at which time he retired. He'd been keeping busy with gardening, yard work, and he usually went to Florida or California in the winter.
He is survived by his sister June Ried, N.Y.; brother Marvin (Pete) "Mary Carol" Kuns, Castalia; and several nieces and nephews.
Bud was preceded in death by his parents Harry and Clara (Mischke) Kuns; five sisters Lucille Hire, Rita Semprich, and three in infancy, Hazel, Ethel, and Marjorie Kuns; five brothers Arthur, Robert, H. Theodore, Luther, and Gerald A. Kuns.
Friends may call from 4-7 PM Sunday in Ransom Funeral Home, 610 S. Washington St., Castalia, where services will be Monday at 10:30 AM. The Rev. Kathleen Suggitt will officiate. Burial will be in Castalia Cemetery.
