Laura M. (Imke) Rice, 87, residing in Milan, passed away Tuesday evening, August 18, 2015 at her home surrounded by her loving family after a lengthy illness.
Laura was born on September 11, 1927 in Adams Township, Clyde, OH to the late Edward and Leona (Zehs) Imke.
Laura graduated from Clyde High School in 1945. Prior to raising her family, Laura was employed at Clyde Cutlery Co. and the former New Departure Hyatt. Laura was a member of St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church in Norwalk. She was also a member of the Milan Mothers Club, the Milan American Legion, Norwalk VFW and Norwalk Eagles. Laura was a volunteer for the American Red Cross, doing disaster and CPR classes and the Volunteer Income Tax Agency for the ageing and Veterans. She received many awards for her volunteering over the years. In her spare time, she enjoyed flower gardening and spending time with her family.
Laura is survived by her children, Laurie (Bruce) Czaplicki, Carol (Bill) Jones, Ed (Debra) Rice, Elizabeth Rice, Paula Rice and Roberta (Allyn) Schnellinger; 10 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; sister, Pauline Kowaleski; sister-in-laws, Eileen Imke, Helen Cook, and Mary Koch and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
In addition to her parents, Laura is preceded in death by her husband, Paul "Pat" Rice, whom she married on July 2, 1949; sister, Ruth Tucker; brothers, George, John and James Imke.
At Laura's request, she has donated her body to the Toledo Medical College of Ohio. A memorial service will be conducted Saturday, September 19, 2015 at 1:30 pm at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, 243 Benedict Ave., Norwalk with Pastor Ann Marshall presiding. Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements.
