John William Sanders, 69, of Sandusky, passed away on Saturday afternoon, August 29, 2015 in The Meadows at Osborn Park, Huron, after a lengthy illness.
He was born on July 15, 1946 in Corpus Christi, Texas to the late William Bruce Sanders, Sr. and Phyllis Arlene (McCullough) Sanders.
John served as a National Guardsman from 1965-1974. He worked for many years as a truck driver, then for several more years at T.G.I. Friday's in Sandusky. He enjoyed planting and gardening, a hobby that he carried with him wherever he went. In the past, he was a scout master in Monroeville, and enjoyed camping with the troop and with his kids. In recent years, he enjoyed socializing with his friends.
John is survived by his daughter, Amy (Jeff) Hershiser, of Sandusky; sons, Darren Sanders, of Sandusky, and Matthew Sanders, of Kentucky; brothers, Stephen (Joanne) and Terry (Charlotte); sisters, Peggy and Judy (Don); sister-in-law, Lisa; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, William, Jr.; and nephew, Shawn.
At John's request, cremation will take place.
Friends may call from 6-8 P.M. on Thursday, September 3, 2015 at Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. A second visitation will be on Friday from 10 A.M. until time of memorial services at 10:30 at the funeral home. Chaplain Mel Sayler will officiate. Private burial will be at a later date in Edwards Grove Cemetery, Greenwich.
