August A. "Gus" Scarpelli, 77, of Sandusky, died Sat. afternoon, August 29, 2015, in Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky, following a brief illness.
He was born Jan. 12, 1938, in Cleveland, and was a graduate of Brookside High School.
He was employed as a Contract Administrator for First Energy for over 30 years, retiring when he was 55. He was a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ in Castalia; the Mid Century Masonic Lodge #725 in Avon Lake; the Ekalnova Demolay Lodge; was Troop Master of Boy Scouts Troop #300 of Avon Lake; and was an instructor for the hunter safety course.
Gus is survived by his wife, the former Ruth Elaine Smith, to whom he was married for 57 years; 3 sons August J. "Skip" Scarpelli of Sheffield Lake, Anthony J. "Tony" Scarpelli of Sheffield Lake, and Joseph O. (Diane) Scarpelli of Avon Lake; two daughters Nancy R.(Kevin) Brown of Avon Lake, and Barbara M. (John) Lott of Sandusky; grandchildren Lindy, A. J., Kevin (Colleen), Dominick, Joey, Michael, and Hannah; great grandchildren Brooklyn, Cameron, Xander, and Mathaus; sister Donna Williamson of Sandusky; several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents August J. and Edith A. Scarpelli.
Friends may call from 4-8 PM Friday, Sept. 4, 2015, in the Ransom Funeral and Cremation Service, 610 S. Washington St., Castalia, and from 11 AM Sunday, Sept. 6, 2015, until time of services at 12 Noon in the Congregational United Church of Christ, 205 Main St., Castalia. Pastor John Paputza will officiate. A luncheon will be served in the fellowship hall following the services. Graveside services will be at 2 PM Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2015 in Sunset Memorial Park, 6265 Columbia Road, North Olmsted, OH.
