Richard A. Cearfoss, 78, of Sandusky, Ohio died unexpectedly Wednesday, September 9, 2015 in the St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo, Ohio.

He was born July 10, 1937 in Lowellville, Ohio to Thomas and Garnet (Harris) Cearfoss and he married Dee (Snyder) Notestine on March 17, 1993 and she survives.

Mr. Cearfoss was a U.S. Army Veteran serving as a Sergeant in Germany. He was an Ohio Highway Patrolman and retired from the Patrol after 25 years of service. Richard was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church, Sandusky, where he was an active member of the Holy Angels Catholic Church Liturgy and Eucharistic Minister Teams. He was a 50 year Freemason, beginning with Medina Lodge #58 and later with Perseverance Lodge #329 F. & A.M, where he served as an officer for several years. He was also a member of the Ohio State Trooper Retiree Association, the Fraternal Order of Police, AMVETS Post 17 and the AMVETS Post 17 Color Guard. Richard enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, riding his motorcycle, was also an avid sports fan and golfer.

He is survived by his wife, Dee; one son, Richard (Cindy) Cearfoss of Canton; one daughter, Kathy Hartmann of Canton; one brother, Thomas (Ange) Cearfoss of Youngstown; he is also survived by three stepdaughters, Jo Dee Davis, Doe Dee (Dave) Zielske and Hei Dee Bugdon; and one stepson, Toby (Roberta) Notestine, all of Sandusky; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Garnet Cearfoss; and one sister, Betty Hall.

Friends may call Sunday, September 13, 2015 from 4-7:00 PM at the Pfeil Funeral Home, Sandusky Chapel, 617 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky. Perseverance Lodge #329 will hold Masonic Services at 3:30 PM and AMVETS will have a Memorial Service at 6:00 PM on Sunday. There will also be a Christian Wake Service at 7:00 PM on Sunday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM Monday, September 14, 2015 in the Holy Angels Catholic Church, 428 Tiffin Avenue, Sandusky with Fr. Matthew Frisbee officiating. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery, Sandusky.

Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Angels Catholic Church Window Restoration Project or to the donor's favorite charity.
