Violet M. Wagner

Violet M. Wagner, 89, of Norwalk, Ohio, passed away Sunday, October 4, 2015 in Fisher-Titus Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born July 22, 1926 in Milan, Ohio, to the late Vance A. and Alma (Lamphert) Myers and was a lifelong resident in the Norwalk-Sandusky area.

In her younger years she worked at the Shelby plant and at several area restaurants. But most of her life she was a housewife, mother, sister, and dear friend to many, many people. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Norwalk for over thirty years, where she was a member of the 59ers Sunday School Class, and the Golden Lambs. She was also a former member of Firelands Post #2743 Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. She was always busy with her needlework projects. She made many quilts for her children and grandchildren.

She was still working on a quilt for a great-grandbaby due in March. For the last almost eight years while living at Gaymont Nursing Home, she embroidered pillow cases, dresser scarves, and quilt blocks. She also made Kleenex box holders, napkin holders, Christmas ornaments, and book marks which she gave as presents or sold them to anyone who came into her room. At 89 years old she still knew the birthdays and anniversaries of her children and all her grand and great grandchildren. She had many friends at Gaymont, at church, and old neighbors.

She looked forward to playing Bingo every Tuesday and Thursday, especially when she won. She loved getting her hair done every week but did not miss cooking or cleaning. While living at Gaymont, she achieved many firsts. She always wanted to her GED and had studied many years. A former teacher and resident tutored her but realized that Violet would not be able to pass the test. But her family and friends honored her with a Special Achievement Award in a graduation ceremony and party. She marched into the dining room to Pomp and Circumstance's wearing a graduation cap and a big smile as her friends and family cheered, it was her special day. She was invited to speak at two high schools to share her story and how she kept working on her education. She encouraged them to keep in school to get their education and not wait until they were in their 80's like her. She was an inspiration to them and to all who knew her. She voted for president for the first time but wouldn't tell anyone who she voted for.

She was elected Gaymont's Fair Queen several times and was Gaymont's official photographer. She was a feisty character and will be missed. Violet was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.

She is survived by her children, Iris (James) Angle of Aurora, Ohio, Rose M. (John) Radank of Hohenfels, Germany, and Edward A. (Krista) Wagner of Collins, Ohio, by 15 grandchildren, and 22 great grandchildren. Violet is also survived by her sisters, Betty Davis of Huron, Ohio, and Anabelle Tanner of Norwalk, Ohio.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elisha Wagner in 2008, by her grandsons, William Carl Radank, and Eric Michael Llewellyn, and by her brothers, Richard Myers, and Donald Myers.

Friends may call on Thursday, October 8, 2015 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in Walker Funeral Home, 98 West Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio, where funeral services will be held on Friday, October 9, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Joel Capizzi will officiate. Interment will be in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron, Ohio.
