Ruth N. (Hyder) Tunnell, 83, residing in Sandusky, passed away Sunday afternoon, October 11, 2015 at Mercy St. Vincent's Medical Center after a brief illness.
Ruth was born on November 30, 1931 in Johnson City, TN to the late Earl and Ollie Hyder.
Ruth had a long nursing career in various hospitals, nursing homes, and eventually retired from the Ohio Veterans Home. She was a member of the Church of Nazarene. In her spare time, she enjoyed traveling and having her family and friends over to entertain.
Ruth is survived by her sons, Kenneth (Jane) and William "Steve" (Jan) Tunnell; 6 grandchildren, Megan Forney, Melissa (Sean) Cassidy, Adam (Randi) Tunnell, Stephanie (Kevin) Kieffer, Stacie Tunnell and Michael-Lynn (Jacob) Evans; 10 great-grandchildren; brother, Gerald (Alma) Hyder; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives; and her little dog, Buddy.
In addition to her parents, Ruth is preceded in death by her husband, William Kermit Tunnell; daughter, Rebecca Forney; siblings, Vearl and Hartley Hyder, Beatrice Brown and Doris Hall.
Friends may call on Thursday, October 15, 2015 from 9:00 am at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E Perkins Ave, Sandusky until the time of funeral services at 11:00 am with Pastor David Flack presiding. Burial will follow in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron.
