Earmia Jean (Moore) Philon

Earmia Jean (Moore) Philon, 77, of Sandusky, was called to her heavenly home on Sunday, October 11, 2015, in Providence Care Center, after a lengthy illness.

She was born on July 24, 1938 in Porterville, MS, to the late Ree and Eddie Owdia Moore.

Earmia was employed by the former Memorial Hospital in housekeeping for many years, while attending John Knapp Beauty School, where she received her cosmotology license. She then worked for New Departure for a short while, and Catherine's Beauty Salon. In 1980 she built a small salon onto her home and trained her two daughters. In 1994 she bought land and built a large salon, which still operates today, Neighborhood Hair Care. Earmia retired in 2013 after failing health.

Mother Earmia accepted Christ at an early age in Pilgram Rest Church in Porterville, MS. She then joined Robinson Temple Church of God in Christ, and was a member of New Jerusalem Baptist Church, where she served in the mass choir, taught Sunday School, and was on the Mother's Board. She was a missionary, witnessing to many people, a soul winner for God, who loved talking about Jesus.

Earmia was a foster parent for many years, a life member of the NAACP and OAB. She was a pillar in the community.

She leaves to cherish her memory, children, Tommie (Martha) McDonald, Annette Allen, Greg Philon, and Debbie Pride all of Sandusky, Brenda Jeter and Marie Morrison, both of Columbus, OH; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; brothers, Howard and Albert both of New Orleans, Bobby Ray (Gracie) and Greg Moore both of Alabama; sister, Rosie Lee of New Orleans, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sons, George McDonald and Star Eddie Ree; and siblings, Luther Ross, Johnny Ree, Edward Lee, Timothy Lee, Joe Willie,
Catherine Moore, Helen Gowdy, and Mary Jean Hubbard.

Friends may call on Saturday, October 17, 2015, from 10 A.M. until time of Home Going services at 12 P.M. Noon in New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church, 1920 Eddie Henry Way, Sandusky. Rev. Curtis L. Johnson Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.

Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky is handling the arrangements.
