Naomi L. Federkiel

Naomi L. Federkiel, 83, of Norwalk, Ohio, passed away Monday, October 19, 2015 in her home.

She was born March 29, 1932 in Ritchie County, West Virginia to the late Glenn and Gladys (Iams) Prunty.

Naomi was raised by her grandparents, the late Charles and Stella Iams, and by her Aunt and Uncle, the late Violet (Iams) and Ralph Prunty. She came to this area in 1960's from Pullman, West Virginia. Naomi graduated from Harrisville High School in 1949, from Fairmont State College, Fairmont, West Virginia in 1953, and received her Master's Degree from West Virginia State University. She was an active member of the Norwalk First United Methodist Church and the Naomi Ruth circle. Naomi started her teaching career in the Norwalk Public School system, teaching at Maplehurst and Benedict schools. She was the Elementary Principal at Berlin Heights Elementary School for 23 years, and was an educator for 33 years, retiring in 1986. Naomi was a member of College Club, Research Club, the Retired Teachers Association, Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority, and various book clubs. She was an avid reader, enjoyed gardening, bird watching, and especially enjoyed going to her granddaughters' school and sporting events. Naomi also enjoyed going to the lake and animals.

She is survived by her daughter and son in law, Judy and Jon Nutter of Norwalk, Ohio, by her step sons, Tom (Sandy) Federkiel of Castalia, Ohio, and Dan (Rose) Federkiel of Sandusky, Ohio. Naomi is also survived by her granddaughters, Audrey and Sarah Nutter, and by her step grandson, Tim (Maria) Federkiel, and by her step great granddaughter, Emily Federkiel. She is survived by her sister, Ruth Villers of Pennsboro, West Virginia, by her Aunt Orpha Iams of Harrsville, West Virginia, and by her nieces and nephews, Carol Ginanni, Mike (Pam) Villers, Paula (Rick) Webb, David (Karen) Villers, and Larry Villers.

Naomi was preceded in death by her husband, Paul H. Federkiel in 2005, by her paternal grandparents, Wil and Dell Prunty, by her brother in law, Paul Villers, and by her uncles, Dale Iams, Floyd and Eunice Prunty, and Boyd and Emma Prunty.

Friends may call on Thursday, October 22, 2015 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in Walker Funeral Home, 98 West Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio. Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 23, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. in the Norwalk First United Methodist Church, 60 West Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio. Rev. Brian Oglesbee will officiate. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Norwalk, Ohio.
