Lucia Gonzalez, age 61, of Castalia, was called to God's eternal and loving embrace Thursday in Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky, after a brave and diligent battle with cancer.
She was born June 27, 1949, in Adrian, MI, and was a 1967 graduate of Adrian High School. She was employed by New Departure Hyatt, and was transferred to General Motors Powertrain in Toledo until she retired in 2006. Prior to this she had worked at Chef's Pantry in Sandusky.
She was a member of Masters Hand Church of God in Castalia, where she was a greeter and outreach director. As outreach director, she coordinated the migrant ministries, had picnics for the local veterans of America and crossroads, in order to fulfill God's calling in her life.
She is survived by one daughter Alina Torres of Clyde; her mother Olivia Gomez Gonzalez of Adrian, MI; two grandchildren Joshua Hall and Brittani Erevia; 3 great grandchildren Chase Alexander Mills, Courtney and Jonathon Yokum; 3 sisters Ofelia (Mario) Avila of Toledo, Margaret (John) Martinez and Susie (Denny) Powlison both of Adrian; 5 brothers Eugenio (Dorothy) Gonzalez, Jr. of Forest, MS, Gilbert (Betty) Gonzalez, Roy (Nancy) Gonzalez, Tony (Carolyn) Gonzalez, and Steve Gonzalez all of Adrian, MI; and several nieces and nephews.
Lucia was preceded in death by her father Eugenio Gonzalez, Sr., in 1969, and a brother Ray Gonzalez in 1996.
Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 pm Monday, May 16, 2011, in the Ransom Funeral Home, 610 S. Washington St., Castalia, and from 12 noon Tuesday until time of services at 1:00 pm in the Masters Hand Church of God, 7410 Magill Rd., Castalia. Pastor Benjamin Patrick will officiate. Burial will be in Castalia Cemetery.
