Maria L. Smith, age 79, of Castalia, died Thursday morning, November 5, 2015, at Firelands Regional Medical Center, Sandusky, following a lengthy illness.
She was born September 1, 1936 in Monterrey, Mexico, to her parents Luis and Maria (Flores) Alvarado.
She worked as a nurses aid at the Lutheran Memorial Home, Sandusky, for many years, and she attended NorthPointe Baptist Church, Sandusky. Maria loved to cook food and serve everybody meals.
She is survived by her three daughters Mary (Gary) Meadows, Monroeville, Betty Osher, Berlin Heights, and Lisa (Daniel) Woodruff; 10 grandchildren David, Angela, James, Rebecca, Nathan, Amanda, Aaron, Hannah, Haley, and Marie; four great grandchildren Mya, Xavier, Justin, and Sierra; three sisters Concha Alvarado, Gloria Bernaki, and Lupe Kapowski; brother Juan Ramon (Sheryl) Alvarado; and several nieces and nephews.
Maria was preceded in death by her husband Wilbur G. Smith, in 1994; daughter Sandra Reece; parents Luis and Maria (Flores) Alvarado; and two brothers.
Friends may call from 5-7 PM Sunday, November 8, 2015, at Ransom Funeral and Cremation Service, 610 S. Washington St., Castalia, and from 12 Noon until time of services at 1 PM, Monday, November 9, 2015, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron.
