Bernice M. Nagel, 92 of Swanton, Ohio and formerly of Sandusky died Monday evening, November 9, 2015 in the Genesis Swanton Valley Center, Swanton, Ohio following a lengthy illness.
She was born March 21, 1923 in Fremont and had graduated from Fremont Ross High School.
Bernice was employed as a telephone operator and had also worked at the former Hills Department store in Sandusky. She was a member of the former Salem United Methodist Church, where she was the Sunday School Superintendent and Sunday school teacher for many years. She also played the piano along with singing in the church choir. Bernice was also a member of the Singara Caldron and had supported her husband in many Masonic organizations. She also volunteered at the Ohio Veterans Home.
She is survived by two daughters, Cindy Knauer of Wauseon, Ohio, Linnea VanBlarcum of Elyria, Ohio; four grandchildren, Doug (Mandy) Knauer, Sara (Ed) Foley, Kirk (Jen) VanBlarcum and Kristin VanBlarcum; seven great grandchildren, Gavin, Samantha and Tyler Knauer, Brookes, Brody and Eddie Paul Foley and Evelyn "Evie" VanBlarcum.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence E. "Bud" Nagel in October of 2002 whom she was married for 57 years; one daughter, Jacqueline Ann in infancy; her parents Ray and Hattie (Walborn) Decker; two brothers, Howard and Wilber Decker and two son in laws, Ray VanBlarcum and Keith Knauer.
Friends may call Saturday, November 14, 2015 from 10:00 AM until time of funeral service at 12:00 noon at the Pfeil Funeral Home, Sandusky Chapel, 617 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky. Chaplain Mary Riedy will officiate. Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery, Sandusky.
