Gary M. "Mike" Balch, 73, of Sandusky, died Friday, December 4, 2015, at his residence.
He was born in Greendale, OH on September 23, 1942, and was a U.S. Navy veteran.
Mike was the operator of the Sandusky Jo Do Kwain from 1988 to 2003, where he held a 3rd degree black belt. He also worked for Sandusky International from 1968 to 2011.
He was a Foster parent to over 150 children.
Mike was a member of the American Legion Post 83, Sandusky.
He is survived by his pride and joys, Alexandria Miller, Taylor Jones, and Ceaira Balch; foster children, Josephine Horne, Larry Spicer, and Earin McDonald; grandchildren, Mark Miller, Christopher Miller, and Danielle Goodwin; great-grandchildren, Juli'onna Raymore, Jasmine Miller, Lilli'onna Miller, and Khaza Jones; sister-in-law, Kim (Mike) Upchurch; brothers-in-law, Terry (Norma) Thaxton, and Dennis (Paula) Thaxton; several nieces, nephews, and other family.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Brenda Balch; daughter, Michelle Balch Thomson; son, Gary M. Balch, Jr.; mother-in-law, Quanita Thaxton; great-granddaughter, Aubri'onna Miller.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, December 10, 2015, at 11 A.M. in First Christian Church, 3410 Hayes Ave., Sandusky. Rev. Don Spurlock will officiate. The Marine Corp Forever Honor Guard will provide the military tribute. Memorial contributions may be made in Mike's name to Stein Hospice Service, 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, OH 44870, or to Sandusky Jo Do Kwain, 1002 W. Monroe St., Sandusky, OH 44870.
