Helen Lena Bean, 98, of Sandusky, passed away on Saturday morning, December 19, 2015 in Firelands Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.
She was born on January 13, 1917 in Benbush, W. Virginia to the late Antonio and Lucia (Depalo) Pavone.
Lena moved to Sandusky in 1955, calling it her permanent home. She was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church. She was a wrestling fan (WWE) and especially liked to watch Sheamus. She also enjoyed country music (and country music videos), going to casinos, BINGO, crossword puzzles, and her two pugs, Brutus and Blue. She was a loving mother and grandmother, taking time to care for them. Her family will remember her reciting her prayers every night.
Lena is survived by her five children, Lucy (husband, Jerry) Mahler, of Lakeside-Marblehead, Dora (husband, Ernesto) Hernandez, of Nebraska, Tony Bean, of Texas, Sally Richards, of Sandusky, and Caryl (husband, Don) Stewart, of Castalia; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Bean, Sr.; son, Paul, Jr.; granddaughter, Paula Bean; and seven brothers and sisters, Mottie "Mutt", Nick, Raphael "Ralph", Pasquale "Patsy", Luigi "Louie", Mary, and Rose.
Friends may call on Sunday, December 27, 2015 from 4-7 P.M. at Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. Funeral services will be at 10 A.M. on Monday at Holy Angels Catholic Church, 1603 W. Jefferson St. Rev. Matt Frisbee will officiate and burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
