George Philip Uther, 82, a longtime resident of Milan and recently residing in Norwalk, passed away Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at Fisher-Titus Medical Center following a brief illness.
He was born on March 19, 1933 in Milan Township, Ohio to the late Rolland and Marie Anna (Leidheiser) Uther.
George was a Veteran of the United States Army who proudly served his country from April 19, 1956 to January 23, 1958. He was self-employed as a farmer for 38 years and employed by Mid-Western Wholesales as a truck driver for 18 years. He was a Captain of the Milan Township FD serving the community for 20 years and was a Farm Bureau member of both Erie and Huron County Councils. George was a member of Milan Presbyterian Church, the MilanAmerican Legion Post 527 and the VFW Post 2743. In his spare time, he enjoyed farming and spending time with his family. George was well known for his positive attitude to life and tried to live his life with a smile every day. He said it made life a whole lot easier and didn't pay to be grumpy at others or oneself.
George is survived by his son, Henry (Beverly) Uther of Lancaster, Ohio; two daughters, Susan (Wayne) Holbrook of Haymarket, Virginia, Mary (Russell) Feezer of Orlando, Florida; three grandchildren, Samantha, Conrad, and Hunter Holbrook; six siblings, Harold (Judy) Uther, Helen Hainline, Betty Lou Halston, Paul Uther, Nola Uther, and Wayne (Mary Jane) Uther; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents,George is preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy I. Uther; his sister, Wilma Wade; and his daughter-in-law Diana Uther.
Friends may call on Saturday, January 2, 2016 at Milan Presbyterian Church, 17 E. Church St., Milan, OH 44846 from 9:00 am until the time of the funeral service at 12:00 pm with Pastor Don Loving presiding. Burial will follow in Milan Cemetery.
