Charlie J. Jackson Sr., 86, of Sandusky, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday January 12, 2016 at the Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center, Cleveland, Ohio, after a brief illness.
He was born on March 26, 1929 in Burkville, Alabama to the late Johnny & Dynah (Davis) Jackson.
In 1951 he enlisted in the United States Army where he fought in the Korean War as a Sergeant, and earned a Purple Heart for the battle that was put before him.
On March 26, 1955 he married Mattie J. Frazier, and relocated to Sandusky in 1957.
He became a member of the Providence Missionary Baptist Church where he accepted Christ as his personal Savior under the late Reverend Eddie Brown, and was a member of the male chorus.
He was employed for 32 years at Sandusky Dressed Beef Company, where he retired in 1992.
Mr. Jackson loved his family near and far, he met no strangers, and always made you feel welcome. He was known for his garden, where he grew the most beautiful collard greens. He loved to Bar-B-Que and to have family gatherings where he shared his knowledge and wisdom about life. He would tell jokes where it would leave one speechless.
He leaves to cherish his memory, sons, Andrew (Yvonnjanai) Frazier, Sandusky, Charles Jackson Jr., Marietta, GA, Richard Earl Jackson, Donnell Jackson, and Paul Allen Jackson, all of Sandusky; daughters, Lena Mae (Johnnie) Patrick, Montgomery, AL, Betty Jean (Harvey) Nicholson, Mattie Pearl Jackson, both of Sandusky, and Elizabeth Jackson, Columbus, OH.; sister, Velma Jackson, Sandusky; brothers, Willie Jackson and Starlin Jackson, both of Sandusky; special daughter-in-law, Doris J.
