Ruth L. Otto

Ruth L. Otto, 90, of Vickery, died on Thursday, January 28, 2016 in Firelands Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.

She was born in Castalia and graduated from Townsend High School in Vickery.

She worked at Otto's Dairy, where she met her husband, Melvin. She was one of the first female bus drivers for Margaretta Local Schools until her retirement. She also drove as a part-time rural mail carrier in Vickery for several years.
Ruth took part in a caravan that delivered Bluebird school buses from Iowa to Fairbanks, Alaska in 1973. She was involved with Chapter 353 Boy Scouts as a Den Mother, Donna's Castalia Caperettes, Town and Country Theater, enjoyed camping with Vacationaland Sams Chapter 23, Red Hat Ladies, and was an active member of Sandusky YMCA with the Silver Sneakers program.

Ruth is survived by her children, Cynthia Otto, of Maplewood, MO, Thomas (Donna) Otto, of Monroeville, Sharon (John) Mirenda and Timothy Otto, both of Vickery, and Elizabeth (William) Barton, of Sandusky; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren, with another on the way in July; brother, Ernest (Lillian) Yetter; sisters, Shirley Duquette, Carol Oney, Constance Schlosser, and Kathy (Galen) Damschroder; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin P. Otto; and parents, Ernest and Mildred (Ried) Yetter.

There will be no visitation. A celebration of Ruth's life will be on Saturday, February 6, 2016 at 11 A.M. at St. John's Lutheran Church in Monroeville. Pastor Jim Michaels will officiate. Burial will be at a later date in Parkhurst Cemetery, Clyde.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Ruth's name to St. John's Lutheran Church, 9416 S.R. 99, Monroeville, OH 44847 or to Stein Hospice, 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, OH 44870.
