Charles Dennis Purkeypile

Charles Dennis Purkeypile, 69, of Sandusky, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, February 2, 2016 in his home.

He was born on October 15, 1946 in Dayton, Ohio to the late Walter Earl, Sr. and the late Audrey Mae (Duffy) Purkeypile.

He attended Sandusky High School. Charlie's favorite hobby was fishing at the game reserve in Castalia. He loved to paint and was an accomplished artist in oil, watercolors, and other media. He was an active member of AA for many years, and he made many fine friends in that excellent organization. He enjoyed leading their meetings and the many retreats he attended.

Charlie is survived by his sister, Geraldine "Geri" (significant other, Peter Levy) Purkeypile, of Augusta, Kansas; aunt, Bonnie (Purkeypile) Kesson, of Idaho; nieces, Heather Richie Mueller and Nicole Smith Springer, both of Kansas; nephews, Michael Smith, of Kanas, Curtis and Craig Purkeypile, both of Ohio, and Thom Richie, of Kansas; and many cousins, grandnieces, and grandnephews throughout Ohio and Kansas.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Walter Earl Purkeypile, Jr., Karen Louise Purkeypile, Paula Purkeypile, and Regina "Gina" Mae Smith.

A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, February 13, 2016 from 10 A.M. until time of memorial services at 11 A.M. at Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. Rev. Mark Delp, longtime friend of Charlie and his family, will officiate. Burial will be at a later date in Venice Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Charlie's name to the American Red Cross, 300 Central Ave., Sandusky, OH 44870, who helped the family in this difficult time.
