Pargny Michael "Mike" McCune, 73, residing in Sandusky, passed away Friday morning, February 5, 2016 after a brief illness.
Mike was born on July 17, 1942 in Sandusky, OH to the late Eugene Pargny and Adele (Fournier) McCune.
Mike attended Sandusky Public Schools and Kelleys Island School, and graduated from Kentucky Military Institute. He was a graduate of Parsons College in Iowa and was a Veteran of the U.S. Army who proudly served his country in the 1960s. Mike grew up spending a great deal of time on Kelleys Island and became mayor in the 1980s. Mike worked in the group health insurance business for over 30 years, and along with his wife owned their own group health insurance agency, North Bay Insurance. His employees were always very important to him.
Mike was a member of Plum Brook Country Club, Sandusky Yacht Club, Rockwell Springs Trout Club and Beaver Creek Hunt Club. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially his annual deer camp trip, playing cards with his friends, and spending time with his grandchildren. He loved being the host, always cooking and making sure friends and family were well fed and happy. Mike enjoyed spending time with his family, including his dogs, Ziggy, Goose, Chunk and Sam. He also had a passion for traveling with his wife to the Florida Keys, exploring their farm, woods and open meadows in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, and most recently to South Carolina. His favorite place to be was at home with his family on the shores of Lake Erie.
Mike is survived by his wife, Sally (Hetrick) McCune; daughter, Megan (Daniel) Pribanic; sons, Adam McCune, Todd (Andrea) McCune, and Scott (Andrea) McCune; and ten grandchildren, Lanie, Tate, Bennett, Isabelle, Dylan, Quinn, Kemble, Madeleine, Mason and Scarlett. Mike was also a loving brother-in-law, uncle and friend to many.
In addition to his parents, Mike is preceded in death by his sister, Michelle Finger; grandmother, Lucia McCune; great-aunt, Helen Kuebler; and mother and father-in-law, Margaret and Scott Hetrick.
Friends may call on Tuesday, February 9, 2016 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E Perkins Ave, Sandusky. Private family services will be held at a later date. Burial will follow in Scott Cemetery, Huron, OH.
