Thomas Grant Scheufler

Thomas Grant Scheufler, 75, Sandusky, died on Thursday, June 2, 2011, under the care of Stein Hospice in Parkvue Healthcare Center.

 

Tom was born on August 15, 1935 in Sandusky to Grant and Martha (Von Kaenel) Scheufler.

 

A 1953 graduate of Sandusky High School, he earned his AB degree from Heidelberg College in 1956, and a Masters of Education from Bowling Green State University in 1962.

 

He taught mathematics at Sandusky High School for nearly thirty years, retiring in 1987.  From 1987 until 1998, Tom was a security guard at NASA Plum Brook Station.

 

He was a member of St. Stephen United Church of Christ, and during winter months, Tom was a member of The Good Shepherd UCC, Green Valley, AZ. Tom held his life membership in the Ohio Education Association and was a member of the Erie County and Ohio Retired Teachers Association.

 

He enjoyed teaching and was pleased with the successes of many of his math students.  Tom and his family tent-camped through the 48 states; and after retirement, he and his wife, Carrie, traveled to Macchu Picchu, the Galapagos Islands, Kenya, Tanzania, China, Tibet, Australia, and New Zealand.

 

Tom is survived by his wife, Carrie (Carolyn Briggs) Scheufler, whom he married in 1958; sons, Stan Scheufler, Encinitas, CA, Steve (Bruce Jackson) Scheufler, Canal Fulton, OH, and Scott (Grace) Scheufler, Kingwood, TX; granddaughters, Nikki, Kristina, and Carly, all of CA; grandsons, Daniel, Joshua, and Samuel, all of TX; sister, Jeane (Jim) Gribble, Loudonville, OH; sisters-in-law, Phyllis (Don) Gates and Lucy (Bob) Kennedy, both of Shelby, OH; brother-in-law, C. John (Ethyl) Briggs, Mansfield, OH; several nieces and nephews, and his faithful dachshund, Maxie.

 

At the request of the deceased, cremation has taken place in the Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky.  Friends may call on Tuesday, June 7, 2011, from 10 A.M. until time of memorial services at 11 A.M. in St. Stephen United Church of Christ, 905 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky.  Rev. Jerald Fenske will officiate.
