Mary Elizabeth "Betsey" Schnetzer

Mary Elizabeth "Betsey" Schnetzer, 71, of Huron, Ohio, passed away Sunday, February 14, 2016 in the University of Toledo Medical Center as the result of a stroke.

She was born January 1, 1945 in Easton, Pennsylvania, to the late Rev. J. Allen and Louise (Prater) Snyder.

Betsey was a 1962 graduate of Selinsgrove High School, and received her Bachelors of Science Degree in Education from Millersville University in 1966. She was a former first grade teacher in Chatham Township, New Jersey, public schools. Betsey was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, Norwalk, Ohio, and was a former member of Zion Lutheran Church of Huron, Ohio. She was a former Sunday school teacher, Vacation Bible School Director, was a former member of the Church Council, and was a member of the Huron Study Club. Betsey was a member of Beta Omicron of Alpha Phi Sorority of Bowling Green State University. She was a former Girl Scout Troop leader in Milan, Norwalk, and Huron, Ohio, was a day camp volunteer, and was a council trainer for the Erie Shores Council of the Girl Scouts of America. Betsey was a member of the Sandusky Concert Association Board, and was a Board Member and Co-chair of the Curriculum Committee at Elder College of Bowling Green State University, Firelands. She was a volunteer at the Stein Hospice Encore Shop, and volunteered many hours for school levies.

She is survived by her husband Dale. They were married on June 11, 1966 in the Trinity Lutheran Church, Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania, by Betsey's father, Rev. J. Allen Synder.

Betsey is also survived by her children, Caroline L. Schnetzer of Monroeville, Ohio, Linda B. Schnetzer (Dean Cowan) of Hong Kong, Victoria A. (Tim) Willer of Norwalk, Ohio, Barbara J. Schnetzer Mack (Jeff), of Corning, New York, and Rebecca R. Schnetzer-Humbel (Josh) of Dexter, Michigan.

She is also survived by her grandchildren, Frances Mack, Steven Willer, Jakob Willer, Andrew Willer, Lilia Mack, Gretchen Willer, Margo Mack, Lucy Humbel and Sam Humbel, and by her siblings, Jay (Jeanne) Snyder of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, David (Dorothy) Synder of Wadsworth, Ohio, Judy (Jon) Hosfeld of Marysville, Pennsylvania, and Dan (Dianne) Synder of Tigard, Oregon.

Friends may call on Friday, February 19, 2016 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in Walker Funeral Home, 98 West Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Peter Lutheran Church, 243 Benedict Avenue, Norwalk, Ohio. Rev. Ann Marshall will officiate. Her cremains will be placed in the Scatter Garden of the church.
