Alexine C. (Wilson) Hicks, 77 of Sandusky, made her transition from this life to the next on Sunday, February 21, 2016 at her residence, surrounded by the love of her family.
Alexine was the second of three daughters born to the late Willie and Margaret (Buchanan) Wilson. She was born January 12, 1939 in Nashville, Tennessee. At an early age, along with her family, she relocated to her new home in Sandusky.
She received her formal education through the Sandusky City School System.
Always a diligent worker throughout her life, she was employed by The Heinz Corporation, Howard Johnson's Restaurant (where she proudly worked as a cook alongside her mother); Providence Hospital, and Sandusky City Schools, where she was able to carry out her passion of cooking; retiring in June of 2008.
Alexine began her Christian walk at an early age. While still in Nashville, she attended Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church. Upon moving to Sandusky, she became a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church, where she married her husband Jack E. Hicks, under the leadership of Pastor C.N. Harris, and later Doctor Curtis Brown. Alexine attended Ebenezer Baptist Church for over 50 years before moving in 2013. She became a member of Harvest House Missionary Baptist Church in 2013 and was a loyal, supportive, and faithful member until her death.
Alexine leaves to cherish her memory, three daughters; Constance (Terry) Beverly-Montgomery, Jacquelyn Hicks-Kitchens, and Deborah (Donald) Robinson all of Sandusky; two sons; Terence (Brenda) Hicks of Trotwood, Ohio, and Rodney Hicks of Sandusky; one sister, Willie Mae "Billie" Wilson of Sandusky; fifteen grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren; a very dear aunt, Dorothy Farrar, special friends; Betty McKind, of Columbus, Ohio, Bertha Jones, and Nora Monegan of both of Sandusky, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 38 years, Jack E. Hicks, a son in infancy; Darrell W. Hicks, and a sister; Gloria W. Jones.
The family will be receiving friends from 4-7 P.M. Sunday, February 28, 2016, in Toft Funeral Home and Crematory, 2001 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky.
