Gregory F. Ogle, 70, residing in Sandusky, passed away early Thursday morning, March 3, 2016 at his residence after a lengthy illness.
Greg was born on February 25, 1946 in Sandusky, OH to the late Oscar and Ruth (Freeman) Ogle.
Greg retired from the Erie County Dog Warden's office after 24 years of service. He was a Veteran of the US Navy who proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. Greg was a member of the Sandusky Amvets Post 17, the American Legion Post 83 and was sanctioned as both an OHSAA softball and baseball umpire. His love of umpiring spanned over 30 years. As Treasurer of the Kiwanis Men's Sandusky Slow Pitch League and the men's softball Erie County Umpire in Chief, many past ball players remember Greg working tirelessly to prep the fields for action. Greg also enjoyed riding his motorcycle, traveling, his dogs and spending time with his family and friends.
Greg is survived by his wife, Jackie (Burns) Ogle, whom he married on August 27, 1983. He is also survived by his daughter, Mandy (Brian) Martin; son, Matt Ogle; grandson, Tanner Martin; brother, Ronald (Jane) Ogle of Palm Harbor, FL, his beloved dogs PooChi, Tootsie, Pequeno, Chico, and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
In addition to his parents, Gregory is preceded in death by his granddaughter, Noel Martin and brother, Lamont Ogle.
Friends may call on Tuesday, March 8, 2016 from 10:00 am until the time of the memorial services at 11:00 am at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E Perkins Ave, Sandusky, with Rev. Anthony Recker presiding. A luncheon will follow immediately after the service at The Legacy Center (located across the street from Groff).
