For the past two years he had resided with and under the tender loving care of his son and son’s family. Lonnie was a founding member of Victory Temple where his son and grandson are the pastors. He was also a founding member of Victory Kitchen where for the past two decades he spent a good deal of his time volunteering and befriending those in need. After marrying Alta Willis on May 9, 1942, he served his country during WWII as a member of the Army’s 715th Railway Operating Battalion in North Africa and Italy. He loved to hunt and especially enjoyed the raccoon night hunts, where he had multiple wins and was pictured in magazines nationwide with his coon dogs. Lonnie worked at Agway Feed Mill and retired from Sandusky Crushed Stone. He is survived by his son, Rev. Lonnie R. (Nancy) Walters; Daughter, Phyllis A. (Charles) Wright; grandchildren, Tammi Lewis, Tim (Marcia) Walters, Mark Wright, David Luke (Caroline) Walters; Great grandchildren, Charity (Ryan) McGuire, Julia, Brooke, and A.J. Walters, Michael and Andrew Wright; brothers, Harold and Paul Walters; Along with several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Alta May (Willis) Walters on September 20, 2010 and his parents, sisters and several brothers. Visitation will be on Monday, November 8, 2010 from 10:30 until a funeral service begins at 11:30 a.m. at Victory Temple, 1619 West Strub Road, Sandusky, Ohio.
