Carroll A. "Jay" Sartor, 91, residing in Sandusky, passed away on Thursday evening, March 17, 2016 at Providence Care Center following a brief illness.
Jay was born October 21, 1924 in Sandusky, OH to the late Carroll D. and Loretta (Faber) Sartor.
He graduated from Sandusky High School in 1943 and attended Ohio State University. Jay retired from the Sandusky Register in 1991 after 42 years of service as an advertising representative. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during WWII (1943-1946). Jay was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the We-Too Club, Inc., and the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
Jay is survived by two daughters, Jill (Dennis) Hahn and Danette (Gary) Piper both of Sandusky; two sons, Brian (Rosemary) Sartor of Columbus and Kurt (Mary) Sartor of Huron; eight grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; four sisters, Sister Francine Sartor and Sister Dionne Sartor, both of Carey, OH, and Ceclia Klepper of Sandusky, OH; and Elaine Jesberger of Tiffin, OH; three brothers, Ronald V. and Richard, both of Michigan, and Paul F. of Grafton, Ohio; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Including his parents Jay was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia M. (Ganther) Sartor, November 14, 2001 and a brother, Fr. Alfred Sartor.
Friends may call on Sunday, March 20, 2016 from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Groff Funeral Home, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. A prayer service will be conducted on Monday morning, March 21, 2016 at 9:30 am in the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 429 Central Ave., Sandusky. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Sandusky.
