George H. Bretz, 89, residing in Huron, passed away Saturday, April 9, 2016 at Firelands Regional Medical Center after a lengthy illness.
George was born on April 1, 1927 in Sandusky, OH to the late George and Ruth (Link) Bretz.
George graduated from Sandusky High School in 1945. He was a Veteran of the United States Navy who proudly served his country in the Phillipines during World War II. George provided 45 years of service with Hinde & Dauch Paper Company, Westvaco & Displayco Paper Company, where he retired in 1989. George was a member of Emmanuel Church of Christ in Sandusky, the Sandusky VFW Post # 2945, American Legion Post # 83, AMVETS Post #17, Tug Boat Association, and SUBIC BAY.
George is survived by his wife, Joyce (Gardner) Bretz; daughters, Pamela (Tim) Hall of Huron, OH and Patricia Sandles of Port Charlotte, FL; son, Richard Bretz of Jacksonville, FL; four grandchildren, Stephanie (Brian) Pathko, Nicholas Sandles, Meredith Bretz and DeShea Sandles; two great-grandchildren, Kegan and Connor Pathko; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
In addition to his parents, George is preceded in death by his son, Kenneth Bretz; brothers, Robert Bretz, and William Bretz; half-sister, Wilma; and half-brother, Rolland.
Friends may call on Sunday, April 17, 2016 from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E Perkins Ave, Sandusky. Friends may also call on Monday, April 18, 2016 from 10:00 am until the time of funeral services at 11:00 am at the funeral home with Pastor Wayne Brockway presiding. Entombment will follow in Oakland Cemetery, Sandusky.
