Donald L. Goretzki, 79, of Sandusky and formerly of Huron passed away Wednesday morning, May 25, 2016 in the Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky following a lengthy illness.
Don was born January 17, 1937 in Sandusky and was a U.S. Army veteran during the Vietnam Conflict.
He retired April 1, 1988 from the Huron High School, where he was employed for 20 plus years. Prior to this, he had worked at the Ford Motor Company. Don was an active member of the Zion Lutheran Church, Sandusky, where he drove the Church Bus. He was also a member of the American Legion, Post 83. He collected Die Cast Cars, enjoyed his American Flier Trains and working in his yard, winning the Corso's Pond Contest several times.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, the former Ruth A. Timm, three sons: Rob (Glenna) Goretzki of Huron, Jeffery (Kelly) Goretzki of Sandusky and Donald (Dawn) Goretzki, Jr. of Norwalk, eight grandchildren, three great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and dearest friend: Sandra Martinez of Sandusky.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Edward & Ruth (Schiefly) Goretzki, two sisters and one brother.
At the request of the deceased, cremation has taken place.
The family will receive friends from 2:00-6:00 PM on Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at the Pfeil Funeral Home, Sandusky Chapel, 617 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky and on Thursday, June 2, 2016 from 10:00 AM until time of Funeral Service at 11:00 AM at the Zion Lutheran Church, 503 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky. The Rev. Ralph Schibler will officiate.
