Lafayette Vance

Lafayette Vance, 85 of Sandusky, died Monday, May 30, 2016 in the Stein Hospice Care Center.

He was born on April 1, 1931 in Sandusky, to the late Fred and Gertrude (Reed) Vance, Sr.

Lafayette retired from New York Central and Penn Central Railroads after 41 years of service.

He was a member of Harvest House Missionary Baptist Church, and a longtime member of Ebenezer Baptist Church. Lafayette loved sports, and always greeted everyone with a smile and Have a good day.

He is survived by his sisters, Joan Taylor-Myers and Ernestine Myers, both of Sandusky; brothers, William (Dannie) Vance, Sarasota, FL, and David (Debra) Vance, Sandusky; special nephews, Jason Myers, Westley Ellington, Michael Ellington, Johnnie Ellington, Freddie Vance, Gregory Vance, Ronald Vance, and Tyrone Vance; special nieces, Teresa Buxton, Jackie Jones, Patricia Ray, Adrian Gant, Jackie Collins, Donna Dunn Vance, Twila Dowdill, Valorie Vance, Sonya Vance, and Lisa Vance.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Elizabeth Gant, Edith Wellington, and Estella Greene; brothers, Fred Vance, Jr. and James Vance.

Friends may call on Saturday, June 4, 2016, from 10 A.M. until time of funeral services at 12 P.M. Noon in Mount Harvest House Missionary Baptist Church, 265 Jackson St., Sandusky. Rev. Josiah Brown will officiate. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Lafayette's name may be made to Parkvue Health Care Center, 3800 Boardwalk Blvd., Sandusky, OH 44870 or to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, 1275 York Ave., New York NY 10065.
