Janet L. Mapus

Janet L. Mapus, 74, of Sandusky, died Friday evening, June 17, 2016, in Firelands Regional Medical Center.

She was born on May 31, 1942 in Sandusky and was a 1960 graduate of Sandusky High School.

Janet was employed by Perkins Schools, as a school bus driver, for 25 years retiring in 2000.

She was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church, where she served as an usher, greeter, and was on the hospitality committee. Janet loved cooking, baking, gardening, playing on her golf league, swimming at the YMCA, and luncheons with her friends. The way to her heart was trough the doors of a restaurant. She was the President of the Bogey Golf League, and a member of the Perkins Booster Club. Janet was always there watching her grandchildren's many activities, never missing a sporting event. She most enjoyed spending time with family.

Janet was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother, never selfish, and always had a kind word with a smile on her face.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, (August 29, 1960), Thomas R. Mapus; Children, James (Stephanie) Mapus, Jennifer Mapus-Zahniser, Matthew Mapus and Tiffany (Brian) McCord, all of Sandusky; grandchildren; Jamie, Carly, Connor, Riley, and Luke; and a brother, Jerry Pugh, Sandusky.

She was preceded in death by her father, Howard Pugh; mother, Agnes (Shoaf) Kreilick; step-father, Milton Kreilick; son in infancy, Joseph; grandson, Tyler James Mapus; and a brother, Russell Pugh.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 21, 2016, at 12 P.M. Noon in Zion Lutheran Church, 503 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. Rev. Ralph Schibler will officiate. Burial will follow in Perkins Cemetery.

Memorial contributions in Janet's name may be made to the Janet Mapus Pirate Scholarship Fund, in care of the family.
