Robert J. Rumford, 92, of Sandusky, died Sunday evening, June 19, 2016, in the Ohio Veterans Home.
He was born on December 23, 1923, in Lorain, OH.
He was a WWII veteran, serving in the Army and receiving the Purple Heart.
Robert was employed by St. Peter and Paul Catholic Schools and Cedar Point.
He volunteered for the American Cancer Society for 31 years and was a cancer survivor since 1980.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth (Cooley) Rumford; step daughters, Sheral (George) Sylvester and Michele (David) Creter, both of Tennessee; sisters, Genie Blair, Stephanie Knauer, Nancy Roesch, and LaDonna Gibson, all of Sandusky.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Eleanor (Nowicki) Rumford.
Friends may call on Wednesday, June 22, 2016, from 4 P.M. until time of funeral services at 5:30 P.M. in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 4511 Galloway Rd., Sandusky. Bishop Don Perdue will officiate. Military services will be held Thursday at 10 A.M. in the Ohio Veterans Home, Giffin Chapel, 3416 Columbus Ave., Sandusky.
