Donald Earl Baaske

Donald Earl Baaske, 88, of Sandusky, passed away July 10 at Lutheran Memorial Home with his daughter Deanna at his side.

Donald was born on February 24, 1928 in Sandusky to Hubert and Minnie (Kaufman) Baaske.

Donald served in the U.S Army as Corporal assigned to the Armor Branch (tank crewman) from 1951 -1952. Donald married Sally Jo Lewis on June 29, 1957.


Donald worked at Sandusky Foundry, Lyman Boat Works, and retired from the Stowe Woodward Company.
Donald was a family man who loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed telling stories and had a contagious smile. Don was so proud of his granddaughters Brittany's graduation from St. Edwards University and Ashley's graduation from the University of Houston.
Don loved his church and God, and was a lifetime member of Zion Lutheran Church, Sandusky and served as an usher for many years. Don was one of the best dart ball players and a long-time player on Zion's team.

Donald is survived by his daughter Deanna Peters of Sandusky, granddaughters Ashley Noel Peters of Houston, TX and Brittany Allyson Peters of Austin, TX, a sister Jeanette Riedy of Norwalk, sister-in-law Joyce Baaske of Huron. ; Nieces and nephews Harold (Barbara) Baaske, Sr., Lois (Harold) Yeager; Nancy (Gerald) Hibbard, Tom (Joanne) Baaske, Ron (Carol) Baaske, Carol (James) Bickley; Paul (Alice ) Riedy, Pat (Jeff) Emerick, Sue (Dennis) Sponer; Margaret Riedy, Bonnie (Eugene) Kubitz, Elaine (Fred) Drossman; Beth (James) Babcock, Scott (Diane) Baaske, Jon (Trudi) Baaske, Brad (Wendy) Baaske, Jill (Kenneth) Collins, great-nieces and great-nephews and many others.

Donald was preceded in death by his wife Sally Jo in 1996, son Michael Dean in 1980, sister Dorothy (Roy) Kellar, brothers Harold (Vanessa), Alvin (Thelma), Leonard (Faye), and Wayne (Joyce). Nephews James Riedy, Karl Riedy, Barbara Baaske, Joan (Wayne) Weber, Margie (Wayne) Pressler and Eugene Eck.

Friends may call on Saturday, July 16, 2016 from 10 am until time of funeral services at 11 am in Zion Lutheran Church, 503 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky with the Rev. Ralph Schibler officiating. The American Legion Post 83 Color Guard will provide the military tribute. A luncheon will immediately follow at the church.
