J.T. "Tom" Lendrum, 88, of Huron, Ohio, passed away, surrounded by his family, Sunday, July 17, 2016 in Mercy Regional Medical Center, Lorain, Ohio.
He was born December 24, 1927 in Kalamazoo, Michigan, to the late Alexander M. and Hazel A. (Astle) Lendrum.
Tom was a 1945 graduate of Norwalk High School, and a 1952 graduate of Purdue University, where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. He served in the United States Army as an enlisted soldier, and rose to the officer ranks as an Army aviator with rotary and fixed wing certifications. As a private pilot he flew for over forty years and was an original member of the board that established the current Huron County Airport.
Tom was a registered professional engineer in multiple states. He was the past president of Norwalk Concrete Industries, formerly the Norwalk Vault Company, from 1963 to 1993. He was past president of the National Precast Concrete Association, and was the recipient of the Yoakum Award of Merit from the precast industry. Tom served in the Ohio House of Representatives, 57th District, 2001-2002. He was a charter member of the Norwalk Rotary Club, a past Commodore of the Huron Yacht Club and a member of Plum Brook Country Club.
Tom was a passionate humanist who loved deeply, experienced both disappointments and triumphs and lived life on his own terms.
He is survived by his wife, Hannah M. (Morgan) Lendrum, by his children, Cynthia Malcolm, John (Erin) Lendrum, Jeffrey (Cindy) Malcolm, Francesca "Lisa" Lendrum, James "Eric" (Lora) Lendrum, and Angela (Don) Leto, 7 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, 3 step children, Laura Russell, Stephen (Heather) Lochner, Erich (Rosalie) Lochner and 6 step grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara Jane (Bandy) Lendrum, and by his second wife, Donna Jean (Hannel) Lendrum.
Friends may call on Thursday, July 21, 2016 from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in Walker Funeral Home, 98 West Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio. Memorial services will be held on Friday, July 22, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Paul Episcopal Church, 87 West Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio. Rev. Margaret D'Anieri, and Rev. Fred Wiechers will officiate.
