On July 19, 2016, God sent His angel down and said unto Thelma Turner, 78, of Sandusky, Ohio, "A job well done, but now it's time to come home."
Thelma was born to the late Mr. and Mrs. Dudley (Lobelia) Turner on June 24, 1938 in Waynesboro, Miss.
She received her education from Waynesboro Vocational High School, and later she received her G.E.D. in Sandusky.
Thelma worked for many years in the retail industry. She started with W.T. Grant, then Sears, and finally Kaufman (known today as Macy's). She loved working with the public and helping those who needed it. She had many customers who valued her expertise in choosing household décor.
As a young child in Waynesboro, Thelma was a member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. C.H. Ruffin. When she relocated to Ohio to find employment, she joined New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church under the then leadership of Dr. Rev. Eddy Henry. Later she followed the leadership of Pastor Curtis L. Johnson, Jr., also of New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church, with whom she served until her passing. She loved the Lord and faithfully attended bible study. She was a faithful worker in the kitchen department.
Thelma leaves to cherish her many memories five children, Levern (Godson) Nasari, of Troy, MI, Rosetta (Herbert) Daniels, of Maumee, OH, Genise Turner, of Detroit, MI, Melvin Turner, of Sandusky, OH, and Gregory A. (Courtney) Turner, of Haymarket, VA; 11 grandchildren, Herbert Daniels, Jr., Brandon Daniels, Catrina Turner, Joylette Daniels, Gregory, Jr., Tareto Nasari, Yau-Weh Daniels, Imani Nasari, Baraka Michael Nasari, Sierra Young, and Corey Turner; three great-grandchildren, DeVaughn Daniels, Anaya Daniels, and Layla Daniels; three sisters, Lizzie Pearl Harris, of Waynesboro, MS, Mildred Turner, of Sandusky, OH, and Francine Newell, of Heidelberg, MS; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
In addition to her parents, Dudley Turner and Lobelia (Coker) Turner, she was preceded in death by her brother, Ernell Turner; and sisters, Ermie Turner and Evorn Turner Davis.
Thelma will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her, and who she loved as well.
A wake ceremony will be held on Saturday, July 23 from 6-8 P.M. in New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church, 1920 Eddy Henry Way, Sandusky. Per Thelma's wishes, she will then be transported to Waynesboro, MS. A wake will be on Friday, July 29 from 6-8 and again on Saturday, July 30 from 11 A.M. until time of funeral services at 1 P.M. in Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, Waynesboro. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
