Edward E. Rhoad

Edward E. Rhoad, 86, of Norwalk, Ohio, passed away Thursday, August 11, 2016 in the Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky, Ohio.

He was born June 19, 1930 in Bloomville, Ohio to the late Ellis and Bernice (Briegel) Rhoad and came to this area in 1967 from Tiffin, Ohio.

Ed was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Korea. He was a member of the Monroeville Congregational United Church of Christ, and was a former youth leader at the Norwalk First Presbyterian Church. Ed was also a member of the Norwalk Bronson Conservation Club. He was a former employee of Tiffin Dairy, Taystee Bread Company, and retired in 1995 from Maple City Ice.

Ed enjoyed bowling, playing dart ball, remodeling homes, and he and his wife visited all of the continental United States in their R.V. meeting and making many friends. He was especially honored to be able to take the Honor Flight to Washington D.C. in 2015. Ed was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Betty L. (Detterman) Rhoad of Norwalk, Ohio, by his children, James E. (Deborah) Rhoad of Norwalk, Ohio, Jeffrey E. (Tracy) Rhoad of Norwalk, Ohio, Patty L. Weiler of Findlay, Ohio, and Linda S. (Martin) Moor of Avon Lake, Ohio, by 11 grandchildren, Matthew (Tiffany) Weiler, Meagan (Matthew Cook) Weiler, Emily (Aaron) Crego, Katrina Moor, Dr. Kyle (Emily) Moor, Tracy Moor, Jacob Rhoad, Sarah Rhoad, Rachael Rhoad, Julia Rhoad, and Alexa Williams, and by 3 great grandchildren, Blaze Smith, Michael Cook, and Eli Weiler. Ed is also survived by his brothers, Gerald Rhoad of Bluffton, Ohio, Lyle (Phyllis) Rhoad of Norwalk, Ohio, and by his sister in law, Edith Rhoad of Bloomville, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Ellis Rhoad, Richard Rhoad, and Kenneth Rhoad, and by his sister in law, Betty E. Rhoad.

Friends may call on Sunday, August 14, 2016 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in Walker Funeral Home, 98 West Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio, where funeral services will be held on Monday, August 15, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Wayne Chasney, Pastor of the Monroeville Congregational United Church of Christ will officiate. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Bloomville, Ohio.
