Andrew C. Kraus, 86, residing in Sandusky, passed away early Thursday morning, September 1, 2016 at The Commons of Providence.
Andy was born on April 27, 1930 in Sandusky, OH to the late Andrew J. and Nellie (Carnegie) Kraus.
Andy was a Veteran of the US Army who proudly served during the Korean War. He retired as a steel purchaser from Industrial Nut in 1995 after 46 years of service. Andy was a member of Grace Episcopal Church. He was a passionate member of the Lions Club for 55 years and served as past president and district governor. He was a past commodore for the Sandusky Yacht Club, Sandusky Power Squadron and also a member of the AMVETS #29, American Legion Post #83, Sandusky Elks #285 and the VFW #2529. Andy was a supporter of the Sandusky State Theatre, the Harlequins Theatre, Sandusky Choral Society and the Firelands Symphony. Singing was his passion; he started with the choir at Grace Church, Sandusky Singers Club and did many weddings and was also the cantor for the Jewish Temple, Oheb Shelom, for 50 years.
Andy is survived by his son, Andrew D. (Deborah) Kraus of Sandusky; grandchildren, Erika Kraus Roth of Sandusky and Brittany L. Kraus of Chicago, IL; great-grandchildren, Kait and Liv Roth; sisters, Gayle (Steve) Bovia of Greenwich, OH and Judy (Tom) Wolfe of Doylestown, PA; brother, William (Kathy) Kraus of Sandusky; sister-in-law, Rose Smith of Bellevue; brother-in-law, Christian (Debbie) Brandstrup of Port Clinton; special friend, Audrey Brown; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
In addition to his parents, Andy is preceded in death by his wife, Ellen (Brandstrup) Kraus in 2010; daughter, Karen M. (Kraus) Pilkenton in 2014; brother, Dean Kraus in 2014; and son-in-law, William D. Pilkenton in 2001.
Friends may call on Tuesday, September 6, 2016 from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E Perkins Ave, Sandusky with the Lions Club conducting memorial services at 6:45 pm. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at 10:30 am with Andy's granddaughters, Erika and Brittany, officiating. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery, Sandusky.
