David R. Mays, 73, of Sandusky passed away Friday evening, September 9, 2016 at Firelands Regional Medical Center surrounded by his loving family after fighting a courageous battle with cancer.
David was born on September 12, 1942 in Kent, OH to the late William and Mary Mays.
David was a member of the Northpointe Baptist Church, American Legion, and AMVETS all of Sandusky. He proudly served in the United States Army. David retired from Delphi after 25 years of employment. He was a very hard worker and was considered a jack of all trades. He was very talented in small engine repair and never hesitated to help a person in need. In his spare time he enjoyed singing karaoke and playing the guitar. His greatest love of all was spending time with his family.
David is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Janice (Ferdinandsen) Mays; 2 sons, Lee and Chad Mays; 2 daughters, Tonya and Mindy Mays; 11 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; sister, Shirley Sprankle and brother Dan (Vickie) Mays.
In addition to his parents, David is preceded in death by his son, David Wayne Mays and several brothers and sisters.
A celebration of David's life will be held on Wednesday September 14, 2016 at 11 am at Northpointe Baptist Church, 3702 Hayes Avenue, Sandusky, OH 44870. Pastor Wally Gilbert will be presiding over the services. Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements.
