Michael A. “Mike” Rice, 58, of Castalia, died unexpectedly Tuesday evening, June 28, 2011 at his residence. He was born September 1, 1952 in Sandusky and was a 1970 graduate of Margaretta High School. Mike was employed for the past 19 years at the Margaretta Public Schools System. Prior to this, he was employed by BFI.
He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Past President and member of OAPSE, Local Union #379, Past President of Castalia Recreation, former dartball player, avid sports fan, card player and enjoyed camping and bowling.
He is survived by his wife, the former Rhonda J. Pfeil, one son; Adam of Castalia, two daughters; Halle of Castalia and Andrea Rice-Giammella of North Carolina, two grandsons; Mason Giammella of North Carolina and Logan Giammella of Sandusky, two sisters Bonnie Keegan, Kris (Gary) Wood, both of Castalia, two brothers: George Rice of Castalia and Dale (Denise) Rice of Fremont, mother-in-law, Carol J. (Ransom) Pfeil of Castalia, one brother-in-law Donald (Iva) Pfeil of Sandusky, aunts, uncles, nieces and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Edwin & Charlotte (Wieber) Rice, father-in-law; Rodger C. Pfeil, brother-in-law; Bob Keegan.
Friends may call Friday, July 1, 2011 from 3-8:00 PM at the Pfeil Funeral Home, Sandusky Chapel, 617 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky. Additional visitation will be from 9:30 AM until time of funeral at 10:30 AM, Saturday, July 2, 2011 in the Grace Lutheran Church, 203 S. Washington Street, Castalia. The Rev. Kathleen Suggitt will officiate. Burial will be in the Castalia Cemetery.
