William Lee Karbler

William Lee Karbler, age 91, of Vickery, passed away Friday night, July 1, 2011, at his home.
 
He was born June 29, 1920, in Teems (Vickery), OH to William and Elizabeth (Meggitt) Karbler. He graduated from Townsend School in 1938, and began his farming career. He was a lifelong Sandusky County farmer and still had a large garden where he started his own plants and flowers in his greenhouse.
 
Bill was a lifelong member of Grace Lutheran Church, Castalia, where he served on the church council, was a member of the Townsend School Board for 12 years, a member of the Farm Bureau, Townsend Grange, and a very active charter member of the  Townsend Ruritan Club. He was awarded the National Award for the 2007 Ruritan of the Year for the Ohio District. He also was a member of the Castalia Cold Creek Celebration Committee for many years and in 2007 was recognized for his service by serving as Grand Marshall of the parade. Bill owned and operated the K & L French Fry Trailer for over 10 years, serving fries, wing dings, and corn dogs at the area county fairs.
 
Bill is survived by his wife of 41 years, Juanita (Ruff-Bales), 3 daughters Linda (Jeff) Grahl of Castalia, Lois (Dan) Whyde of Sandusky, and Lana (Allen) Wollenslegel of LaGrange; 1 son Larry (Barb) Karbler of North Ridgeville; 2 stepsons Larry (Cathy) Bales of Vickery and Roger Bales of Sandusky; 9 grandchildren Brooke (Ted) Keller, Tracee (John) Lizzi, Bill (Jennifer) Karbler, Andy (Jen) Karbler, Tad Wollenslegel, Leslie (Mike) Millis, Beth (Dave) Tishler, James (Susan) Bales,  and Julia (Sean) Thompson; and 14 great grandchildren.
 
William was preceded in death by his first wife, Florence Mehling; his parents; 1 brother Alfred Karbler; and 1 grandson Trent Wollenslegel.
 
Friends may call from 4 - 8 PM Tuesday, July 5, 2011, at Ransom Funeral Home, 610 S. Washington Street, Castalia, and from 9 AM Wednesday until time of services at 10:00 AM at Grace Lutheran Church, 203 S. Washington Street, Castalia. The  Rev. Kathleen Suggitt will officiate. Burial will be in Castalia Cemetery.
