Donald Edward Doerner age 76 of Norwalk passed away Saturday July 2, 2011 at Stein Hospice. He was born December 1, 1934 in Florence, OH the son of the late Gustav & Lucinda (Smith) Doerner.
Don retired from the former GTE where he was a supervising field engineer. He was also a school teacher and coach at Milan High School. Don was the first basketball coach at the new Edison High School. He was a US Navy veteran.
He enjoyed spending time at his cabin cutting firewood and meeting with his siblings every Thursday for coffee.
Survivors include his son, Mark (Fawn) Doerner of Bellevue, daughters, Cheryl (Steve) Vogel of Wichita, KS, Valerie (Rick) Kasch of Bellbrook, OH, 7 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, brothers, Lewis Doerner, Robert Doerner both of Milan, sisters, Marge Mittower of Fremont, Wilma Russ, June Wielnau, Doris Quayle, Judy Haas and Marian Webb all of Milan. In addition to his parents his wife, Amelia Grace (Williams) Doerner whom he married June 22, 1957 in Milan, brothers, William & Russell Doerner, sisters, Helen Mittower & Dorothy Haag preceded him in death.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 9, 201, 11:00 am at the Edison Memorial UMC, 10 E. Church Street, Milan, Ohio 44846. Burial will follow at Milan Cemetery. Foos and Foos Funeral Service, 151 Yorkshire Place, Bellevue is in care of arrangements.
