Sgt. David Matthew Smith 24, formerly of Sandusky, died unexpectedly on Nov. 14th 2016 at Lewis McCord Army base in Tacoma Washington.
Matthew was born on June 23, 1992 in Pineville, Kentucky, and was a 2010 Margaretta High School graduate and a captain on the wrestling team.
He attended Bowling Green State University until his enlistment in the United States Army in 2012 where he excelled in his military training and was transitioning to become an Air Defense Early System Operator.
Matthew met his wife Darby who was also serving in the U.S. Army in Tacoma and they exchanged vows on Dec. 27th 2014. They brought into the world a beautiful daughter named Maddison Kinsley who was the brightest light in Matthew's life! He loved her dearly and he will always be an angel by her side!
Matthew loved football, especially Ohio State and the Baltimore Ravens.
Matthew is survived by his wife, Darby (Squires) Smith, daughter, Maddison Kinsley, his mother, Kathy Weyer (Brian Clark), father, David (Melinda) Smith, brothers, Lonnie Engle III, Josh (Chelsi) Smith, sister, Theresa Smith, niece, Harper, grandparents, Tina Hash, Robert Hash, Ruth & Ira Smith, Jim & Linda Osborne, father-in-law, George Squires, mother-in-law, Cyndie Lawson, and numerous cousins, aunts, uncles and friends.
Matthew was preceded in death by his stepfather Andrew Michael Weyer.
Friends may call on Saturday, December 3, 2016, from 6 - 8 P.M. in Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave, Sandusky. Funeral services will take place on Sunday, Dec 4, 2016 at 11 A.M. in the funeral home. Rev. James McKenzie will officiate. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery with full military honors.
