Robert W. Ries Sr., 91, residing in Sandusky, passed away Sunday morning, November 27, 2016 at Providence Care Center.
Robert was born on September 11, 1925 in Sandusky, OH to the late Ferdinand and Norma (Lieb) Ries.
Robert was a retired truck driver from Vulcan Materials. He spent his retired years traveling the United States with his wife, Eunice in their RV. Robert loved the open road and meeting new people. He served on the USS LST-540 in the U.S. Navy during WWII, and was in the Omaha Beach invasion on D-Day. Afterwards he served on the USS Orvetta (IX-157) in the Eastern Pacific.
Robert is survived by his wife, Eunice (Casanova) Ries. He is also survived by his children, Deborah Warren, Karen Garlock, Patti Sue Daugherty and Robert W. Ries Jr; grandchildren, Jason Burns, Amy Reedy, Eva Bickley, Tabatha Miller, Robert W. Ries III, Sunshine Vilardi and Dixie Garlock; great-grandchildren, Trayjen Rarden, Caleb Burns, Clarinda and Carmine Vilardi, Gavin Burns, Jay Bickley and Brenna Brown; sister, Gloria Sarrica; brother, Wallace Ries and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
In addition to his parents, Robert is preceded in death by his daughter, Clarinda Gundlach; great-grandson, Keegan Rarden and sister, Virginia (Ries) Wright.
No services are planned at this time. A memorial service will be held in the spring. Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements.
