James D. McMahon, Jr.

James D. McMahon, Jr., 75, of Sandusky, died Friday, Dec. 9, 2016, at Stein Hospice Care Center.

He was born Aug. 29, 1941, in Sandusky and was a life-long Sandusky resident.

Jim graduated from Sandusky High School, class of 1959. After graduating, he worked as a draftsman at Mack Iron Works. Jim enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard in 1963; graduated first in his class from the USCG Engineman School; and received an Honorable Discharge as a Petty Officer Second Class in 1967. Upon his return to Sandusky, Jim began a 48-year career as a machinist and draftsman at Schwab Machine, Inc., where he was the shop foreman and co-owner of the company. He was an avid boater and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Judy (Schwab) McMahon of Sandusky; son, James D. (Lynn) McMahon III of Juneau, Alaska; daughter, Julie (Douglas) Ohlemacher of Sandusky; grandchildren, Tia Ruiz, James D. McMahon IV, Kelsey McMahon, Matthew McMahon, Brandon Ohlemacher, Shelby (Andrew) Barnum, Jaret Ohlemacher, and Kali Ohlemacher; sisters, Patricia (Jack) Smith and Sharon (David) Stokley; brother-in-law, Robert (Cindy) Schwab; and seven nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jodi McMahon, on Dec. 29, 1971; parents, James and Mary (Bolyard) McMahon; parents-in-law, Earl and Mary (Doerflinger) Schwab; and nephew, Matthew Smith.

A private memorial service will be held in the Oakland Cemetery Chapel with the Reverend Ralph Schibler officiating.
