Nancy J. (Baker) Showalter

Nancy J. (Baker) Showalter, 74, residing in Sandusky, passed away Monday evening, December 12, 2016 at Firelands Regional Medical Center after a lengthy illness. She will be sadly missed by her loving family; we will miss her beautiful green eyes and smile.

Nancy was born on December 4, 1942 in Mansfield, OH to the late Rosemary (Ernst) Young.

Nancy was employed at Prepared Foods, formerly known as Grilled Meats, in Sandusky for 27 years. She proudly received her GED through Sandusky High School in 1993 at the age of 51 and attended Owens Community College to receive her CDL and was a truck driver for 10 years before retiring. Nancy had attended EHOVE and received her state certification for a nurse's aid in 2005, and was also a certified Reiki healer. Nancy was a member of the American Legion and a former member of Women of the Moose. In 2004, Nancy was named Donor of the Year on behalf of the Help Hospitalized Veterans Organization. She also received her certificate for participating in the 8th annual Citizen Police Academy from September 3, 2008 to November 5, 2008. Before she became ill, she was a member of the Senior Center dart ball team and was previously on a bowling team. She enjoyed gardening, traveling all over the country, arts and crafts, watching the sci-fi channel and spending time with her family and friends.

Nancy is survived by her daughter, Malinda (Timothy) Matthews of Collins, OH; son, Lowell "James" (Kim) Steible Jr; 6 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great granddaughter; brother, Carl Baker Jr. of Norwalk; beloved dog, Mitzy and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

In addition to her mother, Nancy is preceded in death by her son, Kenneth Steible; step-fathers, Carl Baker Sr. and Ernest Young; sister, Carol A. Moore; special aunt, Emma Schuff and husband, James Showalter

Friends may call on Monday, December 19, 2016 at 10:00 am until the time of memorial services at 11:00 am at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E Perkins Ave, Sandusky with Pastor Wally Gilbert officiating. Burial will be held at a later date in Oakland Cemetery, Sandusky.
