Ranzy E. Brown Sr., 79, residing in Sandusky, passed away on his birthday Saturday, January 7, 2017 surrounded by his family at Stein Hospice Care Center after a brief illness.
Ranzy was born on January 7, 1938 in Winona, WV to the late James and Fannie (Wood) Brown.
Ranzy was a Veteran of the Air Force who proudly served his country from 1955 to 1959. After his discharge from the Air Force, he began working at Farrell-Cheek Steel Company in Sandusky. He then worked at A. Schulman in Bellevue until he retired in 2000.
Ranzy is survived by his wife of 55 years, Katherine (Mounts) Brown; daughters, Carol (Dan) Lawrence and Cathy (Jeff) Thanasiu; son, Ranzy Jr. (Linda) Brown; grandchildren, Christopher, Patrick, Adam (Jamie), Zachary and Hailey; three great-grandchildren, Kegan, Konner and Kaleb Brown; sisters, Carlan Harper, Norma Ruse and Esther Day; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
In addition to his parents, Ranzy is preceded in death by his youngest son, Ray Brown in 1995; sisters, Gertrude Gill, Dorothy Gilkerson and Niokla McClung; and brothers, James and Everett Brown.
Friends may gather for a Celebration of Life on Thursday, January 12, 2017 from 11 AM - 2 PM at The Legacy Center, 1522 E Perkins Ave, Sandusky. Burial will take place in Sand Hill Cemetery, Castalia, OH. Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory in Sandusky is assisting the family with arrangements.
