Darlene (Dunkel) Salzgeber, 69, residing in Sandusky, passed away Sunday afternoon, January 22, 2017 at Firelands Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.
Darlene was born on August 31, 1947 in Sandusky, OH to the late Elmer and Doris (Johannsen) Dunkel.
Darlene was a 1965 graduate from Sandusky High School and received her bachelor's in health and physical education from Bowling Green State University. After teaching for 30 years, she retired from Perkins High School in 2012 after 15 years, where she taught health and physical education. Darlene was a member of Faith Memorial Church, where she was involved with the Bible study group. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion and the Sandusky High School class of 1965 reunion group. Darlene was an avid reader and enjoyed camping, traveling, and spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren.
Darlene is survived by her sons, Grant (Tonya) Salzgeber of Wadsworth, OH and Brett Salzgeber of Tampa, FL; grandchildren, Owen and Ryan; special friend, Ed Nolan of Brunswick, OH and other relatives.
In addition to her parents, Darlene is preceded in death by her brother, Robert Strack.
Friends may call on Saturday, January 28, 2017 from 10:00 am until the time of funeral services at 1:00 pm at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E Perkins Ave, Sandusky. Pastor Ken Hiser of Faith Memorial Church will officiate. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery, Sandusky.
