David Woodfin Stewart

David Woodfin Stewart, 96, formerly of Rochester and residing in Sandusky, passed away Saturday morning, January 28, 2017 at Providence Care Centers after a brief illness.

David was born on March 2, 1920 in Perth Amboy, NJ to the late Marshall E. and Ann O. (Shivers) Stewart.

David received his bachelor's degree from the University of Rochester. He was a Veteran of the Army who proudly served his country during WWII, in the CBI with the New First and 94th Chinese Armies. He was awarded the American Campaign Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, and the Victory Medal. He was the CEO of the Rochester Blue Cross from 1955 to 1985, and a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Pittsford, NY. He had received numerous honors and awards while director of the Blue Cross, including, the American Hospital Association Justin Ford Kimbell Award for Advancement and the New York State Ruth F. Wilson Award. He enjoyed vacationing on Cape Cod and gardening. His family meant the world to him, he was a great father.

David is survived by his daughter, Jean (John) Feick of Sandusky; sons, David of Thunder Bay, Canada, Henry of Canandaigua, NY, Nelson (Donna) of Richmond, VA and Douglas (Karen) Stewart of Arlington, VA; ten grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren and numerous other relatives.

In addition to his parents, David is preceded in death by his wife, Alison (Fry) Stewart in 2004.

Services will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Pittsford, NY. Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements.
