Carol A. Heidl, 65, residing in Sandusky, passed away unexpectedly early Tuesday morning, January 31, 2017 at her home
Carol was born on September 18, 1951 in Sandusky, OH to the late Richard D. and Martha (Reid) Heidl.
A lifelong resident of Sandusky, Carol grew up on her family's farm, affectionately referred to as "Heidlsville."
While attending The Ohio State University, Carol worked for Pilot Dogs, an organization that trained guide dogs for the blind. She continued her enthusiasm for assisting the visually impaired by raising and training dogs through the association, Leader Dogs for the Blind. After approximately 30 years, Carol retired from the Ohio Department of Agriculture as a state meat inspector.
Carol was most happy when surrounded by her glorious, tail wagging, well mannered Labradors. Her dogs brought her tremendous joy, a mutual adoration. She enjoyed being outdoors, maintaining her farm, and riding her tractor with her lovely Labs eagerly following her lead. As Carol often said about many of her beloved Labradors, "she was a delightful, spontaneous gal whose outlook on life was positive, her temperament solid and enviable."
Carol is survived by and will be greatly missed by her extended family members and many special friends.
In addition to her parents, Carol is preceded in death by her sister, Donna Schneider.
A small private family and friends gathering will be held Saturday, February 4, 2017. At a later date, a host of friends will gather to celebrate Carol's life and legacy. Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements.
