John R. Brophy

John R. Brophy, 75, residing in Sandusky, passed away Thursday evening, February 23, 2017 at Firelands Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.

John was born on March 27, 1941 in Plymouth, CT to the late Ralph W. and Alicia V. (Kilman) Brophy.

John was a graduate from Thomaston High School and Veteran of The US Army. After his service, John was hired as a construction foreman at General Motors in Bristol, CT, where he was later transferred to Sandusky New Departure Hyatt, General Motors plant. He retired in 1998 after 35 years of service as a construction supervisor. John was a member of the Elks Lodge and the Elks golf league.

He was a construction and set designer for the Perkins Aquatone Program for 20 years. He helped design and build everything from a rising and setting sun for the Lion King to the helicopter in Miss Saigon. There was nothing John could not build or fix. He was an accomplished carpenter and took great pride in maintaining his old farm house and lawn "up on the hill." His favorite time was spent in his "Big Red Barn" with his Golden Retriever pal, Bristol. In his spare time, he enjoyed playing golf, and being a competitive skier. John was past president of the Sandusky Ski Club and an avid Cleveland Indians fan.

John is survived by his wife, Kathy "Shae" (Schoewe) Brophy, whom he married on December 14, 1998. He is also survived by his sister, Jackie DeMatos of TN; brother, Peter (Rosa) Brophy of CT; nieces, Veronica (Nathan) Parker and Javenna (J.) Bailey and his nephews, Joey Brophy, Travis Stigall, and Isaak and Brock Parker.

In addition to his parents, John is preceded in death by his first wife, Beverly K. Brophy.

*Trophy was blessed to have his little buddy, Brock; they were two peas in a pod. Although, Trophy did not have any children of his own, he was a father to many.

Friends may call on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at 9:30 am until the time of Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am at Holy Angels Catholic Church, 428 Tiffin Ave., Sandusky. Father Matthew Frisbee will officiate. Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements.
