Naomi J. Mitchell

Naomi J. Mitchell, age 98, of Castalia, passed away Thursday evening, July 28, 2011, at Providence Care Center, Sandusky, where she had resided for the past eight years.
She was born on July 7, 1913, in Riley Township, Sandusky County, OH, to August and Dorothea (Vickery) Britenberg. 
She attended Riley Township's one room school house and Townsend School.  Naomi was a member of Castalia Congregational United Church of Christ, and the Golden Agers of Castalia.  She loved riding with her husband Bill on motorcycle trips and following George Roeder on the motorcycle racing circuit.  Her talents included pie baking, gardening, and crafts.  Naomi's love of camping and the outdoors were evident as she and her husband toured the U.S. in their 5th-wheel camper.  At Providence Care Center she enjoyed playing bingo and visits from her grandchildren.
She is survived by three daughters Norma Jean Haer, Castalia, Helen Keegan Crapsey, Norwalk, and Mary Ellen Keegan (Floyd) Schoen, Republic; nine grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and eight great-great grandchildren.
Naomi was preceded in death by her parents; brother Haldon at birth; first husband John W. Keegan in 1942; second husband William (Bill) Mitchell in 1986; granddaughter Jacquelyn Crapsey; grandson Gary Schoen; two sons- in-law William Crapsey and Ronald J. Haer; and her cat Rascal.
Friends may call from 5-8 PM Tuesday, August 2, 2011, at Ransom Funeral Home, 610 S. Washington St., Castalia and from 10:00 AM Wednesday until time of services at 11:00 AM at Congregational U.C.C. 205 Main St., Castalia.  Pastor John Paputza will officiate.  Burial will be in Castalia Cemetery.
